Alumni

Andrea Paola Herazo. Ph.D. student. Andrea Paola graduated with a geologist degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Medellin. Her research project studies the geochemistry of organic matter and its role in the origin of Cu mineralization in Chilean stratabound or Manto-type deposits.

Jose Tomas Ovalle. Ph.D. student. He is working on the evolution of iron-oxide apatite (IOA) systems, with a particular focus on the El Laco deposit in the Chilean Altiplano. He combines field observations with micro-analytical and isotopic data. Jose Tomas obtained his B.Sc. at the University of Atacama in Copiapo, Chile.

Silvina Slagter. M.Sc. student. Silvina holds a B.Sc. in geology from Universidad de La Plata in Argentina. She studies silica sinter deposits from active geothermal systems, and she is particularly interested in the feedbacks between microbial life and silica precipitation. Her project at the El Tatio geyser field involves dating siliceous sinter using carbon-14 methods.

Carolina Munoz. Postdoctoral Researcher. Carolina holds a B.Sc. in geology from the University of Chile and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. She is interested in the fluid dynamics of geothermal systems, in particular geyser fields such as El Tatio in Chile or Yellowstone in the US. Her research combines field measurements and numerical models.

Ernesto Cofre. M.Sc. student. Ernesto got his B.Sc. and professional geologist degree at the University of Concepcion in Southern Chile, working on lithium geochemistry. His masters project is focused on magmatic and volcanic processes that contribute to the efficient accumulation of iron from silicate melts.

Constanza Rivas. M.Sc. student. Her research project focuses on sulfide geochemistry at the world-class Chuquicamata porphyry Cu-Mo deposit in northern Chile. Her approach integrates petrographic observations and trace element datasets obtained using EMPA and LA-ICP-MS. She holds a B.Sc. from the University of Chile.

Santiago Tassara. Ph.D. student. Santiago investigates the role of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle on gold metallogenesis. In particular, he focuses on the study of peridotite xenoliths that sample the mantle below Au-Ag deposits in the Argentinian Patagonia. Santiago holds a B.Sc. from Universidad de La Plata in Argentina.

Rodrigo Perez M.Sc. student. Rodrigo is interested in geothermal systems. He is combining anthropogenic tracers (CFC, SF6) for dating of geothermal water with hydrogeochemical analyses to constrain the dynamics of water recharge at the Tolhuaca geothermal system in southern Chile. Rodrigo got a B.Sc. degree from University of Chile

Diego Munoz. Ph.D. student. Diego holds a B.Sc. in geology from the University of Chile in Santiago. After working as an exploration geologist at EMSA (Codelco), Diego has returned to academia to pursue a Ph.D. His project focuses on zircon geochemistry to assess metallogenic fertility in porphyry copper districts.

Dominica Kausel. B.Sc. (honors) student. Dominica s undergraduate thesis aims to investigate the redox state of primitive volcanic products in the Andes of Central- Southern Chile. Her aim is to contribute to the understanding of the redox state of the lithospheric mantle beneath the Andes, and its role during metallogenesis.

Indra Bernal. M.Sc. student. Indra is interested in the geochemistry of silica precipitation processes in the Earth s surface. Her M.Sc. project focuses on trace element geochemistry and non-conventional isotope systematics of silica sinter deposits in Chile and Mexico. Indra got her undergraduate degree at UNAM in Mexico City.
